Download Free Google Drive App For iOS

The DropBox competitor in the world Cloud storage solutions Google Drive , has finally made its awaited debut in iOS platform, joining Google’s Chrome browser as the second Google developed offering to hit the rival iOS platform, writes Wahaab JB at Chip Hazard.

This official app will give users the ability to access and view any uploaded files in their Google Drive folder (just like DropBox) . Additionally, the app will also allow any documents that are stored in a corresponding Google Docs account to be viewed. The new Drive app allows documents to be viewed natively on the device and edited immediately.
Google Drive accounts receive 5 GBs of free cloud storage, with in-app options to purchase more as needed. However, this might not be a solid deal since cloud services like DropBox have been in the scene for a while now because of which many promotional deals are already in place which can give you more storage space than Google Drive.
The only attraction for iOS users to try out this service would be because of the Google name-tag on it. Time will tell if this “late” move by Google would enjoy the same success as from the Android platform.

Samsung 'runs out' of Galaxy S3 phones

The gadget lovers have made it difficult for Samsung to keep up with the demand-supply ratio as huge demand for the Galaxy S3 phone shows that Samsung simply hasn't been able to keep up - and has lost two million sales this month.

The handset is forecast to hit 10 million sales in two months - with demand fueled by lack of a credible rival from Apple.

‘It is simply that demand far exceeded our expectation. But that doesn't mean we had set a very conservative demand forecast,’ Samsung said.

Download Official Google I/O 2012 App for Android

The Google I/O conference is just a few days from now to be held at Moscone Center, 27 -29 June to be exact. In order to facilitate the delegates, Google has offered an official Android app for delegates to keep track of the event and their schedules.

It may be added that Google/s conference follows the Apple’s 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference (conducted annually) held recently.

The I/O conference( which is an extremely popular event amongst the development community)v, held by Google will consist of technical sessions, coding labs, keynote speeches and a good old fashioned hackathon. The official app will also have social features like Google +1 so you will have the ability to +1 sessions directly from within the software.

The app is designed by Google and it’s compatibility starts with the older version of Android 2.2 and up across a massive range of smartphones and tablet devices running the operating system. The greatest thing about this app is that Google will actually be releasing the source code to the app for developers to download and take a lot at how it was thrown together.

If you’re going to this historic event in San Francisco, don’t forget to download this free app exculsively made by Google.

Do it Yourself: Make an inexpensive camera spy car

Whenever the word spying is used, many enthusiasts whose hobby is to make small gadgets to 'spy around' get attracted. Although expensive gadgets are available in the market to make a spy car or one can even buy a custom made or ready made spy car with camera from off the shelf, but why waste money?

Since the spy cars with cameras fitted are only for fun sake for the hobbyists, why not do it yourself - it is as simple as you can see in the following video I came across on YouTube. Although the video was uploaded many years ago, those who have not seen it, would find it interesting and exciting.

Using a wireless video camera and an RC Car or Truck, you can make a working spy car that transmits live video to a TV or Computer.

Watch the video - the step by step guide makes it easier for spying enthusiasts to follow the instructions and actually get going about it:

Theme Specific Stamps: Road to London Olympic 2012

London Olympic games 2012 are nearing and the hear beats are rising as each day goes by - both for the participants and for those who will be lucky enough to watch it live.  Rest of us would of course get a chance to watch the proceedings of the games on our TV sets, laptops, desktops or even smartphones, wherever we may be.

While the preparations continue, letters from friends keep pouring in bearing London Olympics specific stamps - stamps specially designed and crafted for the occasion. Herein under are some of the stamps issued by the Royal Mail and one from Australia - announcing 'Road to London Olympic.'

The Road to London 60 cent stamp features several iconic London landmarks and pays tribute to the hard work and dedication of our Australian athletes by featuring the official logo of the Australian Olympic Team.

The set of ten stamps issued by Royal Mail depicts various sport events that would be the hallmark of the London Olympic games, as can be seen on each stamp above and below.

The Britain’s Royal Mail has also announced that it would issue stamps recognizing the achievement of each British gold medal at the London Olympics. The stamps of gold-medal winners will be on sale by lunchtime the following day at 500 select post offices around the U.K.—the first time the company has ever issued next-day postage.

We at Hobby Shobbys will continue to add more postage stamps from around the world as these continue to get published before, during and after the games.

At Cracked.Com, I came across 5 such dumb hobb ies and I thought sharing it with those who have aliking for such dumb things. The 5 Dumb Hobbies You Won't Believe Have World Championships are:
Rock paper scissors world championship
Paper airplane throwing
StareMaster Staring Contests
Stone Skimming

Creative Writing as a Hobby

While looking for more hobbies than already listed at Hobby Shobbys, I came across Crative Writing as a hobby.

So what is creative writing then and what separates it from journalism, blogging and other technical forms of literature? Creative writing concentrates on narrative craft, character development and the use of literary tropes. Today's bloggers largely fall into this category if confining to the definition of creative writing as concentrating on character development and literary tropes.

Well as per Wikipedia:

"Due to the looseness of the definition, it is possible for writing such as feature stories to be considered creative writing, even though they fall under journalism, because the content of features is specifically focused on narrative and character development."
"Both fictional and non-fictional works fall into this category, including such forms as novels, biographies, short stories, and poems. In the academic setting, creative writing is typically separated into fiction and poetry classes, with a focus on writing in an original style, as opposed to imitating pre-existing genres such as crime or horror. Writing for the screen and stage—screenwriting and play writing—are taught seperarely, but fit under the creative writing category as well."
So those who write fiction and non-fictional writings fit well in the sphere of being creative and innovative. Rightly so, creative writing hinges on innovation - creative writers, innovate characters, though based on their experiences from the real life, and create stories that is actuall about us and people around us.

We shall talk more about creative writing in days to come - however in the meantime why not innovate and create?

Download RedSnow 0.9.14b1 (0.9.14 Beta 1) To Downgrade iPhone 3GS Baseband 06.15

We at Hobby Shobbys shared with the readers Download RedSnow 0.9.12b2 [0.9.12 Beta 2] For Untethered iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak [Direct Link] a few days back.

Now continuing with the updates on RedSnow 0.9.12b2, we now share today's download of RedSnow 0.9.14b1. This new version allows iPhone 3GS users to downgrade their baseband version 0.6.15 to version 05.13.04, through which your device will have  ultrasn0w compatibility and a normal iPhone baseband with full GPS and the ability to use stock IPSWs again.

The step by step procedure is as under:

1. Use the “Extras=>Select IPSW” button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn’t hurt for them to do it too).

2. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”). This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running!

3. Go back to the first screen and click “Jailbreak”. Enable the “Downgrade from iPad baseband” checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next to proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.

For those who are wondering if they can update their 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is “yes” for 3G owners, and “maybe” for 3GS owners.

The iPad is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later. If you have an iPhone 3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone! Be warned!”

The download links are as under:

Top 10 Highest Grossing Video Games Ever

If you are an avid gamer, you woud probably know which are the best games you like or are best in
town. But do you know whauch are the '10 higest grossing video games' ever?

Some of the highest grossing video games - EVER!!
Well I am sure you will have a wavey answer - I did not know it too - so you do not have to be embarrassed.

A couple of days ago, I came across this news at Business Insider and I thought I would air the news to my gamer hobbyists about the se highest grossing videos ever.

Ana Douglas says at Business Insider:
Take "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," for example. That video game is to gamers as "Batman and Robin" is to movie fans. Both were highly anticipated sequels that spent a very long time in production.
Yet the Joel Schumacher-directed film only grossed $107 million total, while the Bethesda Studio's video game hit an all-time high. Within the first week of its debut, it was reported that "Skyrim" grossed a whopping $450 million!
The video games she has tabulated include:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
  • Wii Play
  • Modern Warfare 2
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Grand Theft Auto 4
  • Sims
  • Mario Kart
  • Gran Turismo 3
  • World of Warcraft
  • New Super Mario Bros
I have jumbled the list above - What do you think which of the above ten topped the list? 'Call of Duty: Black Ops?' Well, make a guess and then click HERE to find out - you may have surprises!!

Petting a Big Pussycat

There is no limit to the hobbyists' likes, petting and the extent of 'danger' involved in realizing their likes.

Keeping pets at home is one of the most favourites hobbies. Generally keeping pets is confined to dogs, cats, birds, fish  and non-violent animals like deer and like. But there are people who like to adopt 'dare' petting and keeping dangerous animals and reptiles in their homes, moving about freely. One when I was vising a friend, I suddenly found a big black cobra moving about in his corridor. Appalled and horrified  as anyone would have been, I yelled out loud at my friend about the 'intruder attack.' But my friend just laughed out my scare by telling that the cobra was his pet. Wow!! what a scary pet, I remember to have said.

Jackie Smit with Enzo [Photo: mathews Tabaccos /Bercroft Medi/Mail Online]
Now today, I came across a couple keeping a big 'cat' as their favourite pet animal. The big cat is in fact a 27 Stone Royal Bengal Tiger, nicknamed 'Enzo, that  Michael Jamison and his girlfriend Jackie Smit live with in Brakpan, South Africa.

They bought Enzo as a cute nine-week-old cub but a year later he has grown into a hulk after wolfing down 11lb of meat a day. The couple bottle feed their pussycat with milk and when it is time for a nap, Enzo shares either the couple's bed or on the handy chaise lounge.

Well it is pretty dangerous to live with such a big pussycat, which has now grown into a full size tiger  - but the couple find their Enzo a very homely and loving pet, just like some 14 dogs they have as other 'conventional pets.'

So when are you, if a pet enthusiast, going to get a bigger pussycat for your home?

AR.Drone 2.0: A High-Flying Father’s Day Gift [REVIEW]

This post is for RC gadget lovers, provided their fathers too have a liking for the RC gadgets. And what better gift could it be to present it to your father.

AR Drone 2.0: A high flying father's Day gift
Yes, I am talking of AR Drone 2.0 - an awesome high-flying drone as beautiful father's day gift. I came across this review at Mashable by  and I thought you should know about it, lest you go wandering selecting a suitable gift on Father's Day.

Lance Ulanoff writes:
The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is expensive ($299) and can only fly for 15 minutes on a charge, but it’s still a leading contender for the best Father’s Day gift you might ever buy.
When I tried out the new AR.Drone earlier this year, I sensed its entertainment value, but it wasn’t until I brought it home and took it for a bunch of real test flights that I discovered the compelling nature of this remote-control flying and HD video-recording entertainment device. It’s best described as your own personal spy drone.
The AR.Drone 2.0 is the follow-up to the widely discussed AR.Drone 1, which made a splash a couple of years ago as a unique iPhone-controlled quadropcopter. The best part of it? You could see what the AR.Drone’s standard definition camera saw. The copter responded to the on-screen flight controls.
Today’s AR.Drone sports two cameras: a standard-definition camera in its belly that points at the ground and a 720p HD camera. That camera not only shows you what the copter sees, but also lets you capture HD video files on your smart phone or tablet (iOS and Android devices).
There is lot more to it at Mashable - do read details before selecting this expensive yet exciting gadget for your father.

Download RedSnow 0.9.12b2 [0.9.12 Beta 2] For Untethered iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak [Direct Link]

On 4th of June, we at Hobby Shobbys shared a major update of RedSn0w jailbreak utility released by the Dev Team, which included a new option for unlocking jailbroken iPhone device via restoration of Sam Unlock Activation tickets.

On 9th June, the Dev Team has rolled out yet another update which as compared to previous release contains a minor feature which is the addition of Rocky-Racoon injection option and an iBooks bug fix.

The dev Team is of the view that:
Update #1: Starting with version 0.9.12b2,  Redsn0w  will now explicitly ask users with limera1n-able devices whether they want to inject rocky-racoon using the DFU ramdisk method, or the backup/restore method (the ramdisk method is better for those with lots of media on their device that would create very large backups, and it’s required for those with inactivated iPhones).
If you’ll always want to use limera1n, you can select that in the Preferences Pane. It also fixes an iBooks issue an old-bootrom 3GS iPhones, and provides more useful error messages when things go wrong.”
For users who have already jailbroken their iOS devices don’t necessarily need to use this tool again for jailbreak, but if you’re one of those iPhone 3GS users who are facing problems in iBooks can go ahead an re-jailbreak with this newer version of RedSnow.

Beware of unwanted guests while fishing

On 6th June, I shared a video warning the fishing enthusiasts for what other than fish they may get hooked on to their fishing line.

Today, while reading the world news, another similar news attracted my attention. Now this is a bit weird as while fishing and almost catching a mythical 13 feet giant squib, the fishermen find a hungry shark coming over and attacking their cache.

Photos courtesy: Al McGlashan/YouTube
Mail Online reports that The Australian Daily Telegraph fishing columnist - and big-game fisherman - Al McGlashan was sailing off the coast of New South Wales, Australia, at the weekend when he came across the carcass of a 13-foot squid.
And when McGlashan got into the water to explore the carcass, he found he was not the only interested party - a large blue shark came and made himself known, before devouring parts of the carcass.

Beware while you go fishing

Fishing is one of the most enjoyable and 'in' hobby of a lot of hobbyists around the world. The fishing enthusiasts spend countless hours sitting and waiting for a little jerk in their fishing rods to catch the booty. But sometime you may get something other than a fish - may be a an old boot, under water bush or  even an Octopus.

Yes Octopus - though catching octopus while fishing is very rare, but sometimes it does get caught on to your fishing hook - so beware of such an eventuality and do not panic. Rest assured nothing gigantic as seen in movies would come out but remember it is bigger than the biggest fish you ever hooked.

I came across the following video on YouTube and I thought of sharing it with my fishing hobbyists with a little commentary as shared with the video:

Megapickles, who shared the video adds: Bryce hooked into a octopus which he originally thought was a snag. I was able to get some pretty sweet underwater shots while it was next to his kayak. The octopus was kept and enjoyed. It swallowed a pretty large hook so its survival was unlikely. I used a Kodak Playsport (Zx3) to film this.

It is further added: For the record, I didn't kill it, or eat it. I just filmed it. Also, it was not wasted. Its sacrifice was well respected among those that did eat it. I'm not a biologist of any kind, but a simple search on the internet shows that octopuses are not a rare animal. In fact, there is evidence that suggests they are overpopulated in their range. They have a life-span of 3 to 5 years so I'm guessing because of its size that this one was nearing the end of that span. So, I would rather it be killed quickly and not wasted than it be set free to suffer and starve for the last year or so of its life with a six inch hook in its mouth.
