The First Ever Earth-Rise

Full Story: Light Box / Time
Earth-rise - Taken by Orbiter-1 23 August 1966 (Photo:NASA)
23 August 1966 will always be remembered as a milestone in the history of astronomy and space travel. It was the day when NASA's Orbiter 1 arrived at moon. As it rounded the far side on one of its early orbits, it snapped earth for the first time from the moon - earth as we see moon from our land everyday.

The awesome photograph till this day is considered as a masterpiece - which shows earth like a half moon rising over the dominating arc of the lunar horizon. At that time, we had seen sun and moon rise countless times, but never seen an earth-rise. For astronomy lovers, this awesome capture is a lifetime treasure.
